Drive through scenic landscapes, including the famous Indus River. Overnight stay in Skardu.
Rest day for acclimatization and preparation for the trek. Final gear check and briefings on the trek.
Travel from Skardu to Askole, the last village before the trek begins. Overnight stay in Askole (basic camp).
Begin the trek from Askole to Biafo Glacier Base Camp, which takes about 2-3 days of trekking. The trek passes through rocky trails, river crossings, and picturesque valleys with views of various peaks and glaciers. Camp at scenic locations along the way, gradually gaining altitude.
Reach the Biafo Glacier Base Camp, which will serve as the staging point for the climb to Uli Biafo Spire. Rest and acclimatize at the base camp, which is situated at an altitude of approximately 4,500 meters (14,763 feet). Spend the day exploring the glacier and preparing for the ascent.
From the base camp, begin the approach to the Uli Biafo Spire, setting up Camp 1 at a suitable location closer to the spire. The route to the spire includes a mixture of glacier navigation, rock scrambling, and ice sections, requiring climbers to be proficient in both rock and ice climbing techniques.
On these days, climbers will attempt the final ascent of the Uli Biafo Spire. The climb is a mixture of rock and ice, requiring careful navigation, technical skills, and endurance. The summit day will require a long push, as the final part of the climb can be steep and exposed, with rocky and icy sections. Once at the summit, enjoy panoramic views of the Karakoram Range, Biafo Glacier, and surrounding peaks like Broad Peak, Gasherbrum, and others.
After reaching the summit, descend back to Biafo Glacier Base Camp. The descent involves retracing the route taken during the approach and ensuring safety while descending steep and technical sections. Rest and relax at base camp.
From the Biafo Glacier Base Camp, begin the return trek to Askole Village. The descent takes around 2-3 days, allowing for rest and acclimatization as needed. Overnight camping along the way.
Travel back to Skardu by jeep from Askole. Rest and celebrate the successful climb. Overnight in Skardu.
